The command reflects His divine right to command, to lead. It began in our passage today and it continues even now in this church and in our lives. Today I didn’t tell you another story, because this is the greatest story ever told.

How could peasants teach like this? These uneducated peasants “turned the world upside down.” How? Acts 4:13 tells us the reason: they had “been with Jesus.” Jesus took a handful of uneducated outcasts and turned them into world-changers. Their enemies were amazed at their confidence and boldness. The first time they preached in public 3000 people believed and began following the teacher’s Way.

They passed on the message from their teacher. What could these poor, uneducated peasants hope to accomplish without their beloved teacher? Surely nobody would listen to them! But people did listen to them. Sometimes they failed, but they kept trying. The teacher’s way was too difficult for them. They were unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to stay. They joined his classes for a time and then quit. He had to teach them the same lessons over and over and over again and they still didn’t learn it. They didn’t always get the answers to questions the teacher asked correct. These students were not perfect students. They must follow His way rather than their own. His students wouldn’t have to pay anything, but they would be required to listen to his teaching and obey his instruction. Out of all the students he could have chosen, he chose to teach these peasants. He saw them not just for what they were, but for what they could be. Educated people laughed at them and called them names. They had to work hard to feed their families.

They didn’t have much free time to study or educate themselves. The people who lived in that area were scorned and looked down on. It takes place in a remote corner of the world. Big Idea: Jesus is calling us to be His disciplesīefore beginning the passage, I would like to tell you a story.
